Overview
Women of color have always struggled to find inclusive self-care products and companies. For example, over the last three years, dark skin tones appeared in only 13% of photographs on the 70 top beauty brands' Instagram accounts.
Sharon Chuter launched the #PullUpOrShutUp challenge in June 2020 and found that many self-care companies had zero to low numbers of POC women employed in positions of leadership. In response to this, many of those companies started incorporating more Black content creators on their pages in an attempt to make their company appear more diverse. Unfortunately, this was short-lived.
Solution
The Invest Inclusive app provides consumers with a purchasing guide for skincare, makeup, haircare, and self-care companies. Invest Inclusive teaches consumers which self-care companies truly celebrate inclusivity within their products. Through this app, customers can do their part by researching companies and choosing to invest in ones that promote all skin tones, races, ethnicities, and genders alike!
